Born Quarter Barcelona is just 3 minutes walk away from the Hotel Duquesa de Cardona
Born originally meant "joust" or "list", and in the Middle Ages, and for many centuries thereafter, the neighbourhood's main artery, the Passeig del Born, was the focal point of the city's festivals, processions, tournaments, carnivals and the burning of heretics by the Inquisition. At one end of the road is the old Born market, a magnificent 1870s wrought-iron structure, which is to be turned into a cultural centre and museum.
Label-happy cool-hunters throng the Born 's pedestrian streets, where museums, restored 13th-century mansions and churches alternate with cafés, galleries and boutiques.
