One of the icons of modernism and Barcelona
Parc Guell, in the Gracia district of the city, is a place to go preferably in the sunshine, to enjoy Gaudi’s multiple talents and to relax in the gardens in between visiting the sights. The park overlooks the city, and offers a fantasy-land starting at the main entrance with two Disney-style houses on either side of the gate, after which you are confronted by a mosaic serpent, leading up a stairway to a “Doric temple” of 86 stone columns, originally built to house a covered market. The columns support a mosaic roof on which sits a large circular, public area, surrounded by the most exotic park bench you have ever seen.
From our hotel, take the Line 3 at Drassanes metro station and stop in Vallcarca.
