Born centre cultural

Born’s fruit and vegetable market buliding opened in 1878 and was one of the first examples of cast-iron architecture. This was the birthplace for a large numer of wholesale establishments and delivery agencies and was eventually moved to the city’s Zona Franca área during the 1970s. Derelict for many years, it’s now the cultural focal point of the neighbourhood. In no small part due to the discovery of a medieval archaeological site. The archeological excavations started in 1994 and the building reopened on 2013, this time revealing the traces of the demarcations of street and houses of Barcelona on the 17th century, serving as a testament and showing the consequences of the siege of 1714.

Nowadays, El Born Centre Cultural is a spot created to encourage and promote the remembrance of international, national and local events: debates, training, cultural and artistic events, all relating to the intangible heritage.
