Barceloneta quarter

The Barceloneta quarter is an 18th-century fishermen’s town designed by military engineer Juan Martin Cerdeño, created to replace the housing destroyed to make way to La Ciutadella. In the 19th century, the Barceloneta quarter became an industrial slum.

The wide-open spaces of Passeig de Joan de Borbó – a great spot for a stroll – is in contrast to the narrow streets of the neigbourhood. Continuing along the left-hand side of the Passeig, you’ll come across the charming Plaça Barceloneta at the junction of Carrer Andrea Dòria. If you go straight on from here you will finally reach the beach. Barceloneta is known for its fresh fish, paellas and tapas restaurants.
