Santa Maria del Mar Barcelona
Santa Maria del Mar was built on the gravesite of Santa Eulàlia, the patron saint of Barcelona. Inside the church immense, towering columns meet to create fan vaults in true Gothic style.
The sheer height of the church and peaceful candelit setting enrich the spiritual atmosphere. This is a wonderful place to gather your thoughts and retreat from the busy streets outside. The eight columns form a semi-circle and surround the altar and frame beautiful 15th-century stained-glass windows.
Santa Maria del Mar is located in the Born Quarter of Barcelona, a 5-minute walk from Hotel Duquesa de Cardona. A best-selling book about the church in 14th-century Barcelona (Cathedral of the Sea written by Ildefons Falcones) is the subject matter for local travel agency city tours.
